Amber Road has scored top marks again. The tour was full of variety – so many wonderful little towns full of history, amazing stories and picturesque winding streets. Anna was the perfect guide – charming, caring, efficient and funny. We thoroughly enjoyed being with her. Local guides were good too – particularly Emanuella. Top spot was probably Ravello, but towns in Puglia (e.g. Alberobello, Matera, Ostuni and Trani) ran it close.

Anna “piano piano” Sagaria was a Tour Manager “fantastica”. She quickly empathised with the group and ensured that we all enjoyed a memorable Tour. I would not hesitate to award the “sassi” Anna – Five Stars! Hotel location and quality were to usual Amber Road high standards. All our local guides were excellent. The Tour Itinerary provided the customary Amber Road high quality mix of relaxing experiences, cultural stimulations and wonderful Italian food. The Tour offered a collection of superb differing experiences at every visit – with personal highlights being Ravello, Matera, Lecce and Trani.
We greatly enjoyed the tour. Our tour guide Anna Sagaria was excellent. She was very considerate and efficient in dealing with our dietary needs and mobility problems. We particularly enjoyed our four night stay on the Amalfi Coast – the hotel was excellent, as were the other hotels elsewhere.
We are back home after a truly wonderful trip to Italy. Our tour guide, Anna, was spectacular….fun, knowledgeable, efficient and delightful. She made all of our activities seamless and memorable. The local guides were very interesting and the sites were generally well-selected. We hadn’t travelled with such a small group before (9), but thoroughly enjoyed our bonding experience with our fellow travelers from Australia and the USA.
We couldn’t have asked for a better way to start our 50th Wedding Anniversary trip than with Anna and the other 7 travelers touring the beautiful Amalfi area and the rest of southern Italy. She was so caring and attentive to our every need. It is obvious that Anna loves what she does and brings her country to life for the rest of us. The scenery, the lovely hotels and the food were wonderful. We hope to travel again with Amber Road.
We had a wonderful time touring the Amalfi Coast and Puglia. The hotels were of a high standard and the sites visited were very interesting, with excellent local guides. Our tour leader, Anna, was particularly good, with excellent organisational skills and a great personality.
This was our first tour with Amber and it was fantastic. First and foremost our tour guide, Federica was superb. She was extremely knowledgeable and most of all friendly and fun. We would go an another trip with her in a heartbeat. The specialty tour guides that were also chosen for each individual site were also fantastic and extremely knowledgeable. Secondly the destinations of this Amalfi trip (Apulia region) were also fantastic, not your typical Amalfi trip and not destinations that I would have thought of on my own. Very educational and inspiring. Ravello was beautiful and a good place to unwind with a 4 day stay. Loved loved Ravello. All in all it was a great trip!
This was a wonderful tour. I appreciated the sites selected, many off the beaten track. Our tour guide, Tiziana, was exceptional. Not only did she keep us on track, in a sensitive way, but she was a great teacher. I’ve studied Italian, and she was great about practicing with me. She also shared information about Italian culture in general, and specific to areas we were visiting. She was warm, fun and generous in spirit. The pacing of the tour was great, with built in free time not often found in other tours. We were able to do our own thing, rest, and, of course, do a bit of shopping. My husband appreciated that there were no commercial stops. The local guides were generally excellent. The hotels were well placed, and of high quality. Bari was not a planned stop, but put together by Amber at the last minute because of issues in Trani. I actually enjoyed visiting the old town quite a bit, so kudos to Amber for putting it together. We also enjoyed the other travelers in our group, as well as the small size of the gruppo.
The trip was lovely and I so appreciated all the extra miles the company and our guide, Tiziana, went to in order to accommodate my crazy schedule. Our hotels were wonderful and the food very good for the most part. We enjoyed the company of our fellow travelers and met some very interesting folks. Tiziana is a dear and everyone adored her. If the rest of your guides are as good natured and knowledgeable, you are lucky. Thanks again for all the time you spent getting me transfers when I needed them.
Our tour was well structured and seamlessly put together. There was a good balance between planned activities and independent exploration time. Tiziana, our tour guide, was a knowledgeable gem. It would have been very difficult to independently put together a trip covering the different areas of the country successfully covered by the trip.
Great time, wonderful tour guide.
Our first taste of Amber Road Tours was a memorable experience, made all the more invigorating and educational by the fantastic efforts of Anna our tour guide. The group of 14 was treated to exceptional hospitality and service throughout the trip which was very well planned with a perfect balance between group activities and individual free time. The local guides were all terrific, however a special mention must go to the brilliant fellow (John-Paul I think) at Castel de Monte and Alberobello – he had us all captivated with his unique theatrical approach. Ravello was just stunning, like being in a dream. Lovely boutique hotel despite the many steps to and fro. Matera and Trani were the other two stand-out highlights amongst many other wonderful southern Italian experiences. And the food of course – how could you not love it! This was definitely a small group tour of the highest standard with a well considered and relaxed pace including a nice diversity of activities and special villages. We would highly recommend Amber Road to any traveller wanting to be seduced by the charms of Southern Italy without being herded through places following a silly umbrella!
What a great trip! Thoroughly enjoyed seeing Basilicata and Apulia through the eyes of our wonderful host, Anna. She was amazing. Not only her knowledge of the area but also her ability to bond with all of us and to make sure everything went smoothly. She was able to connect to all the restaurants and make sure that the guests with food issues were well taken care of. That in itself, is impressive! We loved meeting our new folks from Australia and Great Britain, as well as Virginia and also sharing this experience with other members of our Italian Conversation “Gruppo”.
When asked at the farewell dinner what part of the trip we all liked the most: Trani, Lecce and Matera along with Paestum came through as the best parts of the tour. Thank you also to Amber Road Tours for suggesting our fabulous hotel in Naples, the Palazzo Decumani – gorgeous location, friendly helpful staff, and great, comfortable rooms.
First time in Italy, referred by my sister, who took the Tuscany tour. She loved the small group and experiences offered, and my spouse and me were not disappointed!! Wonderful tour guide!!!! We learned so much. All accommodations are unique and excellent. We loved Italy with Amber Road tours!!!
Fantastic trip. Excellent choice of hotels, superb meals and wonderful tours. There was a good balance between organised time and free time. Federica, our tour guide, was amazing. Knowledgeable and personable. Unfortunately I had a fall three days before the end of the tour. Federica spent hours at the hospital with me and was most helpful and supportive in every way possible. My only regret was that I was unable to continue the end of the tour. I would recommend this tour and the professionalism of Amber Roads.
This was my third time with Amber Road and once again I was impressed by the high standards of all aspects of the tour. Our tour leader, Federica was very knowledgeable, warm and helpful. When my sister broke both her arms in a fall at Otranto, Federica’s assistance was invaluable. She managed to arrange two extra nights in the beautiful Patria Hotel in Lecce as we had to abandon the last two days of the tour. Highlights for us were stunning Ravello and the Hotel Villa Maria; Matera, with its intriguing underground homes and totally relaxing thermal baths; and Trani, a laid back portside town. Best dinner was Soul Kitchen at Matera.
This was my first Amber Road Tours experience. Our guide met us at the airport and from the first moment I could tell that this was going to be a wonderful experience. She was full of enthusiasm and knowledge about each of the cities we toured. The local guides were wonderfully entertaining and knowledgeable. The food was superb. The hotels were all very different and along with the food, reflected the culture of the area. We also had a very small group of people in the tour, just 6 and we found out how wonderful that experience could be. I have found new friends who helped make memories for a lifetime.
Great trip. Particularly impressed with the knowledge, enthusiasm, and language ability of every regional guide and – of course – our tour leader Frederica. I also appreciated that we stayed multiple nights at each hotel – time to explore and also rest.
Our tour with Amber could be summarised as a wonderful time to relax and enjoy the Amalfi coast with nothing more to organise than the occasional free lunch or dinner – and even for that, Anna our tour manager was always helpful with great suggestions of local restaurants that she could recommend (or at least endorse!). This was our first trip with Amber Road Tours and came after a hectic week through Italy for a group of 6 which was self organised. So being able to put our feet up and not think about having to organise anything was a welcome break and certainly something I’ll look forward to on our next tour with Amber. The Amalfi itinerary was really very good and struck the right balance between organised activities and free time to explore and enjoy the locations. We loved the unique and off the beaten track hotels (most were excellent) and getting away from the sometimes crowded tourist areas. The tour was made even more enjoyable by the fantastic tour manager, Anna, who managed to get on with everyone and was great fun making the whole experience one we won’t easily forget.
The tour exposed us to a new region of Italy, the Mezzogiorno, that was diverse in terrain and sites. In Ravello and Amalfi, it was lush with greenery, mountains and ocean views. Then the contrast of Matera with the stone caves and Trani on the sea with its clean, white cityscape. The towns of Ostuni and Barletta were very interesting showing us castles and trulli houses. Paestum was like a visit to Greece. Our accommodations were excellent in location, luxury and views. The dining experiences were highly memorable as the food was beautifully prepared and plentiful along with the great service. The pace of the trip balanced sites with free time and is suited for the traveler who does not want to be busy every moment.
‘This was our first experience with Amber Road Tours. We had been looking for a small group tour and with 16 the average number of participants in a group, Amber Road Tours seemed to fit the bill. On tour, our group of 14 ( which included driver and guide) had all travelled extensively before and everyone readily intermingled. We were pleased with the itinerary, the towns and historical sites visited and had exceptional individual tour guides in each. We also had a very good mix of planned excursions and free time, which was important to us. Our tour director/guide, Aldo was both knowledgeable and entertaining and we were impressed that when it was raining on our arrival in a town with streets too narrow to accommodate our 20 seater minibus, he organised taxis to shuttle us to the hotel door in order that we stay dry – Our hotels were always very conveniently placed in the historic centres of the towns we visited. Our driver too was impressive, navigating the windy twisty roads with caution and vigilance. Pairing our lunch and dinner menus to the speciality food and wine of the regions we were touring made for some interesting choices and Aldo always gave appropriate suggestions for independent dining. Bravo Aldo and Amber Road Tours and Grazie Mille for a wonderful experience. We look forward to travelling with you again!’
This was our first trip with Amber Road Tours and I am sure it will not be our last! This was one of the best trips we have taken with one of the best Tour Directors we have ever had. The itinerary was great-the right balance of structure and free time. The hotels were unique with all the modern amenities and were well-located for going off on our own. We saw the highlights of the area yet still had sufficient free time to explore on our own. Having a small group allowed us to get to know the others quickly and become a compatible group. Aldo was so knowledgeable-and very entertaining! He was so helpful in directing us to restaurants and free-time activities.
Aldo our Tour Guide was amazing. He gave us first hand experiences and traditions of Southern Italian lifestyles, food & family traditions. So interesting. Hotels were situated in central parts of towns & were varied from boutique to modern. Suggestions for our own time were brilliant and varied. Itinerary was clearly explained beforehand and tailored to suit our crowd when ideal. Appreciated this company’s tour ethics, their assistance at any time and standards.
We have traveled independently in Europe and this was our first experience with a guided, small group tour. We chose wisely. This tour was amazing on many levels. Amber Road has obviously spent quality time fine-tuning their itineraries, choosing great hotels, restaurants, local guides and tour managers. We toured with a wonderful group of people and, most importantly, we had Anna as our personal tour manager. She is both professional and personable, a dynamic combination that makes her an outstanding coordinator for a group of people who have never met. We so enjoyed our interactions with her. Anna and Amber Road are the gold standards by which we will compare any future tours we take.
We have just had another marvellous trip and experience with Amber Roads! Aldo is wonderful, knowledgeable, helpful and genuinely caring; our group of twelve was a lot of fun and definitely most interesting; the local guides were very good and the countryside we covered was certainly as advertised! Unfortunately even Amber Roads and Aldo together could “fix” our weather…but, still, we all made the best of it!
We shall continue to sing the praises of your organization ( including your lovely staff in Charleston ) and we will return for another trip ourselves…for certain! Until then, thanks from us both for an exceptional holiday!
