We have just returned from our wonderful tour of Tuscany/Umbria with Amber Road Tours. The well planned itinerary in the most beautiful surroundings was made even more special by having Tiziana our lovely and knowledgeable tour guide supported by Paolo the kindest most helpful driver ever. It was also great having such a small and friendly group. The hotels were excellent and very well situated so we were able to explore the glorious historic little towns at any time on our own. We were also most fortunate in having Tiziana give us guidance on where to shop and the best places to eat. The tour more than exceeded our wildest expectations and we can’t wait to go on another Amber Road Tour.

This was my first tour ever, and I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in this area of Italy. After this experience I would go on any of their other tours. I am not the only one with this thought, I believe that this was the fourth ART tour for one of the participants in my group. I was one of the 11 participants in this tour. I had been careful to select a small tour. The size of the group was perfect. I found everyone to be friendly, and compatible. Tiziana our tour guide was very knowledgable and a great guide. Paolo, our driver was also a great choice, and very careful and friendly. In a couple of cases he “stood up for us” after some Italians were rude to one of us(which happens in all countries). That was very nice to observe. The selected agenda, hotels (2 were built in the 12 and 13 hundreds, and food could not have been better. I had post Italy travel plans and Tiziana was very gracious to make suggestions. I arrived a day early, and the ART office made excellent suggestions on hotels and transportation choices. As a single traveler, I always felt safe on the trip, when I was alone, during our free time.

We find it very hard to top what the Manduleys from Florida have said about this tour. It is our first time to Italy and also our first tour with Amber Road but it certainly won’t be our last – already planning where we will go next. Everything from accommodation was superb, Villa Maria we could have stayed in for a week, Villa Cimbrone with its beautiful gardens, scenery along Amalfi Coast especially travelling from Sorrento back to Ravello had to be seen to believed. There were many highlights but the caves in Matera, seaside towns of Trani, Otranto had characters all of their own & to finish it all Alberobello with it’s unusual Trulli houses. Jonathan & Sonya must be given full credit for all the thought that they have put into their tours to give people a trip of a lifetime. We have left till last a big Thank you to Anna Sagaria there are not enough words to say as to her caring, thoughtfulness to each person on tour, her fun at trying to understand us Aussies and us coming away with a better understanding of the Italian language keep up the good work Amber Road

I wanted to let you know how much Bob and I enjoyed our tour of Tuscany and Liguria…Beatrice and Ubaldo were wonderful, and everything was A+++, i.e. the local guides, hotels, food, itinerary, and our group!

Tom and I loved the tour!! Anna was fabulous! We enjoyed the sights and atmosphere so much! We found Matera fascinating and Ravello beautiful and enchanting. The people in our group were warm and friendly. Now Tom is drawing up the plans for a Italian pizza oven on the lanai! We look forward to our next journey with Amber Road Tours!!

The trip was amazing …. So different than the first and such a surprise. You always wonder if the second trip can live up to the  first experience but it far exceeded our expectations. Ravello was enchanting and the scenery of the Amalfi Coast just beautiful …. A thank you to Cellestino for being the safest driver, particularly navigating between the goats and road blocks. The trip had such diversity:  the food, scenery and regions.  The Sassi caves were such an eye opener … the stories from our guide were something else. And as for Giampaolo, he brought history alive and kept a captive audience. And finally, a huge thank you to Anna our tour guide who was ‘gold’ … attentive, informative, helpful and intuitive in understanding individual needs.  What a truly genuine and lovely person …. Anna just made the trip so great. Thank you again Amber Road … Your tour structure is just perfect!

We usually do all our own research and bookings ourselves, but this time we decided to take a tour and we were very pleased that we chose this Amber Road tour of Sicily. The tour leader, Aldo and the driver, Maurizio, were excellent. We always felt we were in capable hands. All the local guides were very informative and shared many insights into the history and peoples of Sicily; Laura (Palermo), Xavier (Erice, Marsala) and Giovanna (Agrigento) deserve particular mention for the excellent ways in which they managed the group. The tour took us to a wide range of historic places, geographical regions and wine and food experiences all at a manageable pace for active 60-somethings. The only thing that we would change is the morning free in Ragusa. It was hot and it would have been nice to stay in a hotel with a pool to make good use of that free time.

Our Tuscany and Umbria trip with Amber Road Tours was delightful and satisfying in every respect. The itinerary was very well chosen and included almost everything that we would have done had we been traveling on our own. The pace was quick, but we still had time to explore neighborhoods, restaurants, and shops . We could never have learned as much about what we saw had we lacked the insightful and often humorous commentary of our tour leader. He even initiated us into membership of the “crazy people” of one town with some unique cultural events. The restaurants and hotels that we visited were all excellent. The local guides who met us in major cities and cathedrals were also informative and responsive to our questions and interests. We were a small tour group and perhaps that contributed to the camaraderie and fun; but even had we been a larger party, we expect that we would have received almost as much individual attention. We also appreciated our dinner with Amber Road directors Jonathan and Sonya. All in all, it was a fabulous trip that we will enjoy in our memories and photos for many years to come. We certainly will consider another Amber Road tour or a return visit to Tuscany and Umbria.

Italy is an amazing place. My husband and I have a continuous love affair with Italy which only gets stronger every time we visit. This is our fourth visit to Italy and the tour of Amalfi Coast to Puglia is our second with Amber Road. Our tour manager, Anna Sagaria, is the complete package – total historic and contemporary knowledge, well-organized, sensitive to individual and group needs, great personality and sense of humor, and in complete control. Our driver, Nino, was very experienced with the roads and curves and did a great job of getting us everywhere we went. The people you have brought into your tours are truly an asset and they represent you well. The tour did an excellent job exploring south Italy’s diverse geography and cultures and we had a nice blend of free time and organized activities. The history and sights in southern Italy are truly amazing, and your attention to detail provided all of us with great experiences from the beautiful places we stayed, to the wonderful tours and great meals in beautiful settings. We had a great group of travel companions and some very funny moments. Every day there would be something to marvel at and enjoy – the breathtaking views from the lovely Hotel Villa Maria in Ravello, beautiful Amalfi coast, boat trip to Positano, impressive ruins in Paestum and Pompeii, visiting the charming Trulli houses in Alberobello, seafood lunch by the sea in Otranto, sipping wine at night in Trani and Ostuni, and elegant Lecce. However, the most impressive “wow” moment was exploring the caves of Matera, Italy’s oldest continually inhabited dwellings with a fascinating history, and our unique cave hotel, Locanda di San Martino. It was magical. Julian and I have returned home with a greater appreciation for Italian wine, limoncello, gelato, fava bean cream, buffalo mozzarella, and an insatiable craving for tarallis – and I miss having a chauffeur! The tour of Amalfi Coast to Puglia was a memorable experience and we highly recommend it. We are already planning our next one!

This was our first tour with Amber Road, and to this part of Italy and we had a wonderful time. The itinerary was well planned, the hotel choices were excellent, and the meals were all very nice. We had a wonderful group of fellow travelers and cannot say enough about our tour leader. He went above and beyond to ensure that everyone in our group had a memorable experience. The local guides were also quite good and helped make our very enjoyable trip a learning experience as well. We would happily recommend Amber Road to anyone and look forward to travelling with them again.

We had a wonderful Sicily tour in May!  We chose Amber Roads Tours because we found they had the most extensive itinerary of the island.  Our tour was 12 days which is the most days we found on the market for Sicily. We really liked the idea of taking a cultural boutique type tour.  After completing the tour, we were completely satisifed and felt we got a great overview of the island. The tour exceeded our expectations in every way!  We enjoyed the good mix of history, cultural, art, etc. and especially enjoyed the local tastings in various locations such as Marsala.  All of the shops and restaurants were very hospitable. We loved all of the places in Sicily we expected to see such as Taromina, Syracuse, and Agrigento.  They were all as wonderful as we had dreamed them to be.  We also especially enjoyed the Baroque town of Ragusa. It was one of the highlights of the trip, but would never had know about it without the tour.  It was a great area for shopping too.  Our tour guide, Aldo was great.  He is an experienced tour guide who provided us with valuable information.  He was very genuine, had a wonderful sense of humor, and made our travel experience special.  Our tour guides in each of the local areas were first rate.  They gave us valuable information about the history, culture, etc. of the area.   This was an invaluable part of the trip and grateful that Amber Roads made arrangements for these guides.  Many thanks to Lara, Pina, Giovanna, Barbara, Lucia, and Sabrina. We are greatly appreciative of our driver Maurizio.  Not only did he have a pleasant disposition, but he made us feel safe as we traveled through the windy mountain roads through the beautiful landscape.  Our tour was a wonderful group of 11 people who were great travel companions.  I see many of their comments on the site and everyone agreed that it was an exceptional tour.   All of the accommodations were excellent and all travel arrangements went smoothly.  We recommend Amber Roads without hesitation.  I know sometimes when you are researching tours, it helps when you hear about other people’s experiences.  We have travelled with tours before and they were usually fine.  However, Amber Roads was by far the best.  We recommend Amber Roads for your future travels.

This was my first Amber Tour Tour and it exceeded all my expectations.  I cannot recommend it highly enough.  Our small group consisted of Australians, Canadians, and Americans who could not have been more compatible.  The Italian country side and medieval hill top towns in Tuscany and Umbria were spectacular.  To me it is incredulous that early Tuscans, Romans, etc could have built such magnificent cathedrals and hill top towns with their mighty defensive walls in the absence of anything like modern building equipment.

Our tour leader was most knowledgeable in the history of the area as well as in the current political climate in Italy. Our city guides were equally informative. We had superb meals at great restaurants and also the recommendations for dining on our own free time. Our bus driver, Paolo Collotti, was equally great.  Not only was he a most careful driver, he was so kind and helpful to us all. He was a joy to be around.  If you have not been to Tuscany and Umbria on a Amber Road tour, please do so as you will be well rewarded.

Our fourth Amber Road tour, through Tuscany and Umbria, was lovely, with terrific travelling companions and an amusing tour leader, who would no doubt do well as a stand-up comedian – his multiple definitions of a couple of Italian words had us rolling about the bus laughing. I am always surprised that a guide will give up his own free time to allow us to spend time with him at lunch or dinner; I rather think it must be somewhat tedious to have to spend that extra time with the group, but he did this with good grace and he chose interesting restaurants for us to dine at. Usually, all of went together, which made for lunches and dinners with much laughter.
Thanks again to you both for having such a wonderful tour company. You obviously take tremendous care in your choice of areas to visit, your tour leaders, hotels and restaurants. We will keep telling people about Amber Road Tours!

How fortunate I am that my friend discovered AmberRoad Tours and that I decided to go on this trip to Sicily last month. The 12 days were in all spectacular. To be more specific however I will start with noting our tour manager Aldo. He was in every way professional and fully organized. He was funny, smart and relaxed and so therefore relaxing for me. His attention to detail, his enthusiasm and his knowledge of Sicily made this experience very special as we traversed from the city of Palermo to the resort town of Taormina. The guides at each of our stops were friendly and informative about the history, culture and artworks we were taken to see. I appreciated the selection of sites from Roman ruins, to museums to unique places like the Whittaker estate, and the variation of cities from the historic town of Erice to Ragusa and to Syracuse where we had a lovely boat ride around the city. I also want to note our bus driver, who was experienced and an excellent driver. This was a very reassuring aspect of our trip. All the hotels we stayed in were comfortable and the staff at all were attentive. The rooms I had were all excellent. Finally, I really enjoyed the food, and in particular the selections for the tour were excellent. I will certainly recommend AmberRoad to friends.

Our Week in Tuscany Tour was wonderful-well organized, with a delightful blend of scenery and small hill-top towns. Our tour guide, Tiziana, was marvellous, giving us lots of information on history and explaining many of the Italian ways, always with her delightful touch of lightness and sense of humour. Tiziana was always there to help, and the whole trip was a great mix of things to see and do, and free time too. Carmelo’s driving on the winding roads was with great skill and care, and he was always pleasant and attentive.
The accommodation in Pienza was outstanding and the hotel in San Gimignano overlooked the main Piazza. The group meals provided opportunity to try local foods and the small group of 19 was friendly and interesting- all from America except we three Australians. Right from our time of booking, Amber’s information and communications were excellent, and made the whole trip a memorable one, with a desire to come again soon. We certainly would have no hesitation in recommending Amber Tours to our friends.

All we can say is WOW!!!! This was one of the best vacations we’ve had. Lisa, who booked us, was a delight to work with. She was extremely helpful and informative, fully answering every question we had. Her willingness to go the extra mile (e.g. with recommendations for our extra days in Florence and Lucca before and after our tour) was greatly appreciated.

And finally we were off to Italy… we met up with the tour on May 11th @ Florence airport and immediately were in good hands with Tiziana (our tour leader) and Carmelo (our driver). I don’t think we could say enough about Tiziana. She was fabulous; a warm, friendly, accommodating, extremely knowledgeable and just downright fun guide.

The tour itself was terrific; we wish it could have been longer. The towns we went to were charming, full of great history, architecture, art and of course great gelato (we had gelato at least once a day!!!). The local tour guides were very informative with great presentation skills and delightful personalities.

We spent 3 nights in Pienza at a beautiful hotel (Hotel Corsignano) and 3 nights in San Gimignano also at a lovely hotel (La Cisterna right in the main square). Both hotels were terrific, with wonderful breakfasts and great locations. Our rooms were relatively large for European rooms, very clean and both had beautiful views of the hills. The included dinners were far superior to the dinners we’ve experienced previously with large group tours.

The end result is that we hope to book another Amber Road Tour in future years. Thank you so much for a wonderful vacation!

Our tour of Sicily with Amber Road was most enjoyable. The itinerary was well planned and provided us with the opportunity to see the best of Sicily at a pace that was not too hurried or hectic. The group size was such that we were able to get to know all our very congenial travel companions and the mix of Australians and Americans made for interesting conversations. The hotels we stayed in were well chosen both in terms of location and quality of accommodation and the meals provided were all of good quality. It was so nice, and definitely most civilized, to have wine included with them, too. Our bus driver was excellent as was our tour guide, Luigi Migliore. Luigi was knowledgeable, patient, organized and fun and he went out of his way to ensure that we enjoyed ourselves. For example, on days and evenings when we were on our own for meals he made great suggestions for restaurants and even escorted us to them to make sure we were well looked after. He suggested activities for our non-programmed time and again, often came with us. (Examples were the bus ride from Taormina to Castelmola and the uphill walk from Ragusa Ibla to Ragusa Alta). The local guides, of whom there were many, were also very good. This was our first trip with Amber Road and based on our experience we would recommend the company highly to anyone considering touring in Europe.

What can we say that hasn’t been said by others! Having just returned from our third and fourth tours with Amber Roads over the past three years, it is obvious that we wouldn’t keep returning unless we felt that this was the tour company to travel with.
This year we took the Friuli-Venezia-Guilia/Slovenia tour with the charming Katarina Klemencic who has a wicked sense of humour and who was unfailingly pleasant and helpful, and then followed this with the Tuscany/Umbria tour with the amusing and irrepressible Alex Lavagnini. Both our tour leaders were knowledgeable and delightful to travel with; they chose great restaurants at which to eat in our free time and gave generously of their own free time. Alex was witty and kept us greatly amused on our bus trips. Our driver in Tuscany/Umbria, Paolo Collotti was kind, courteous and someone whose driving ability kept us feeling safe. Once again, your choice of hotels was excellent and I particularly loved the Grand Hotel Toplice with its balcony overlooking the breathtakingly beautiful Lake Bled;  the Hotel Antiq Palace in Ljubljana where I could have happily stayed longer, especially as the music school was so close;  it was delightful to hear melodies from various instruments during our stay.  Thanks again to you both for having such a wonderful tour company.  You obviously take tremendous care in your choice of areas to visit, your tour leaders, hotels and restaurants.   We will keep telling people about Amber Road Tours!

Our Amber Road Tour of Tuscany and Umbria was simply fabulous. We explored the fascinating towns and villages we had read about and we marvelled at the views. We learned about the art, architecture and history from excellent guides and shared delicious meals with new friends. Our tour guide Luca was charming and knowledgeable and our driver Paola was excellent. We are looking forward to doing another tour; the only problem will be deciding which one!

Amalfi Coast to Apulia was our second time touring with Amber Road so we knew what to expect: a rich, small group experience, excellent guides, fabulous sites, lovely hotels, scrumptious and overly abundant amounts of food and a witty tour manager attentive to our every need. Amber Road delivered again! We had a wonderful time exploring this part of Italy with new friends and, again, found the mix of scheduled and free time to be perfect for us.

Grazie mille!

First visit to Sicily; first group tour; only British couple in the party; with some apprehension we flew to Palermo and from the moment we opened our suite door our anxiety evaporated. The welcome party and first meal set the tone for a fascinating, eye-opening trip. Our fellow travellers were open, friendly and considerate – the small group quickly gelled into a lively, responsive and appreciative audience. We were blessed with the services of Aldo as the inspiring tour manager whose un-erring anticipation, professionalism and light humour in all circumstances enhanced every aspect of our travelling and visits. Maurizio, our charming driver, not only proved to be a most competent and thoughtful chauffeur, but a perfect foil for Aldo’s Sicilian anecdotes. Every day brought a memorable high-light under-lined by enthusiastic local guides. Altogether a great experience and introduction to a beguiling island people. As an eavesdropping couple observed as we said final good-byes after a last meal, having independently returned to a favoured Taormina restaurant, ‘You guys seem to have had a great time, who are you with’ – without hesitation we said – ‘Amber Road Tours – the best team’.

Our second tour with Amber Road and it was another winner. We were not aware of the massive history of this area in Italy and local guide, Sonia, was well informed and interesting. The concentration camp in Trieste was very interesting and has been well designed as a memorial. Accommodations were exceptional. Ljubljana is a lovely city with a very welcoming atmosphere.

Small group travel is the best way to go! We visited places we would not have seen on our own. The trip was well organized; our tour manager, Luca, was terrific. All local guides were informative, pleasant and easy to understand. It was a memorable trip.

I thoroughly enjoyed this tour. I fell in love with Sicily. This tour was well-organized in that we visited all the important sites. Aldo was the ideal tour guide – knowledgeable, humorous, and caring of the group in all ways large and small. The hotels were great and staffed by efficient and courteous personnel. A special commendation to the local guides – all outstanding to a woman, and our driver Marizio was superb.

After travelling with several tour groups these are the things I’ve found that make a really memorable holiday experience: Good food, comfortable hotels, small groups, free time to explore, information about the people and culture as well as the museums and historically significant sights.  I would rather see less monuments if it means I get time to absorb each place I visit.  This tour had all of these ingredients in spades!!!!

Our tour manager Aldo was warm, funny, informative, and attentive to every detail. We could not have asked for more, and really felt we learned a lot about Sicilians, things you don’t learn from a guidebook!  He took care of everything to ensure we could just absorb where we were each day with no stress.

The local guides were enthusiastic and passionate, and having different ones at each stop kept everything fresh and interesting.

The fabulous accommodation – always in the centre of town- so we could easily explore by ourselves in our free time.

The food- was absolutely fantastic- I have no complaints at all- and happily brought home with me a few extra kilos!

The pace- the tour was ideally paced for our needs- we had excellent information and lots of time to explore – seeing many important historical and archaeological sights- but not so many that it was overwhelming.

Travelling is a passion of mine, but living in Australia means that travelling is expensive and the distances are huge.  I work and save hard for my holidays, and look forward to coming back to Australia feeling relaxed and enriched by the experiences that only travelling can bring, this has not always been the case, however it certainly was on this occasion.  I will be looking at Amber Road Tours again in the future.
