This was our first Amber Road tour and we absolutely loved it. Our tour guide Tiziana [Santi] was very caring and helpful and efficient and our trip went extremely well. The accommodation and the day trips and the organised dinners were tops . We have very happy memories and made new friends as well. Well done Amber Road.

What an amazing trip to Milan and the Italian Lakes! This is my 5th trip with Amber Road, and it was spectacular! It is impossible to describe all the beauty we encountered. Thoroughly enjoyed Milan, especially visiting the Duomo. Both the outside and inside are magnificent. Visiting the Last Supper was very special, especially learning that both the Last Supper and the Resurrection paintings were the only two walls standing after the church was bombed in WWII. The highlight of the trip was of course the Lakes! Our first lake to visit was Lake Como which was gorgeous with amazing views and beautiful landscaping. The Hotel Belvedere was a treat, and the Villa del Balbianello cannot be missed with their pristine gardens and the treasures in the Villa. Its collection of artifacts is more than you see in many museums. The other lakes we visited were breathtaking as well. Lake Maggiore at the end of the trip was the icing on the cake and jaw dropping gorgeous. Hotel La Palma was wonderful and the views of the lake with the mountains just took your breath away. Isola Madre’s gardens and the villa were memorable. Pictures cannot capture the beauty of all the lakes we visited. A special treat was visiting Bergamo, Brescia, Cremona and Mantova. I was unfamiliar with these locations, but they did not disappoint. Each one was steeped in history with wonderful sights that would rival more well known cities, without the crowds. Cremona was my favorite as it was the town where the violin was invented, and it was amazing to see so many priceless violins in one spot. Many thanks to our Tour Leader, Tiziana, who clearly loves this region of Italy and filled our heads with details of each location and its history. She took very good care of us and made sure every need we had was taken care of. Our group of twelve was a delight to travel with. Many thanks to Amber for a very memorable trip, one that I did not want to end!

Our tour of the Italian Lakes and Milan was amazing. The tour manager – Tiziana – was very knowledgeable and professional and an overall delight. The arrangements were perfect – the bus was comfortable, our drivers were great, the hotels were lovely. The individual tours in each town and attraction were remarkable. We especially enjoyed seeing sights that are a bit off the beaten path – Bergamo, Brescia, Cremona, and Mantova were all towns we might not have chosen on our own. Lake Orta was spectactular as were the islands in Lake Maggiore and the town of Sirmione on Lake Garda. We especially enjoyed our hotels and walking in the towns of Bellagio and Stresa. The group dinners were a lot of fun and had creative local menus and specialty foods, and we enjoyed our traveling companions. This was our second tour with Amber Road and I can’t wait to do another one in the future.

We had a wonderful time in Italy and enjoyed this tour very much. The itinerary was excellent, which is what attracted us in the first place, along with Amber Road Tours truly being a small group entity. We appreciated them moving forward with our trip, even though there were only 6 people. Our tour leader, Tiziana Santi, was very knowledgeable and took good care of us during our travels. Communication with Amber Road Tours is always prompt and thorough. All the hotels were good to excellent, some with superb views. In Milan, even though the room was on the small side, the harpist playing in the morning at breakfast, and the view from the rooftop bar were very memorable. All of the guides were great, some were superb. They made for very rich experiences, and we learned a great deal from them at each venue, be it a church, a theatre or a museum. The beauty of the lakes is well known, and it was so wonderful to stay in Lake Como and Lake Stresa and to have experiences in Lake Garda and Lake Orta. For us, the real highlights of the trip were in the off the beaten path, less traveled towns of Bergamo, Brescia and Mantova. We truly wish we had more time in these locations – they were fantastic! Our stop in Cremona was also terrific, especially our guide and the violin recital in the battistero. Being in a small group also allows you to dine at small, intimate local places that a large group could not. Both of our group dinners in Mantova were fantastic. Lovely family, ambiance and food at Il Cigno. Our dinner at Lo Scalco Grasso in Mantova was nothing short of spectacular. This restaurant and the chef will remain in my memory for some time to come. The food was truly special and the chef, who came to our table, was so modest and kind, he clearly loves what he does, and it showed. What a great trip, so many wonderful lifetime memories. Thank you Amber Road Tours.

Fran and I hold Amber Road in high regard and we truly enjoyed our Italian Lakes experience.   In the past, we have traveled with other well run, and high end tours that have large groups. We are seasoned travelers, and we prefer the Amber Road’s small group experience to that of larger entities. We were happy that you went forward with the Italian Lakes tour even though there were only six participants.

We have been to Italy many times, both on our own and with tours. Each region amazes us in its’ own special way.  The natural scenery and each small town of the Italian lakes tour had their own highlights that made them special gems to visit.  We enjoyed the small islands, the guided narrations, the boat trips and every unique destination.  The fact that our small group was able to dine at local, less touristy, and intimate restaurants is very appealing, and another reason to take your tours.  We found all the hotels to be well located.  Our hotel rooms, (some with excellent views) as well as the service, and breakfasts were great.

Tiziana [Santi] is a very professional and knowledgeable tour manager.  She was fun and very easy to travel with.  She guided us safely, and her enthusiasm for the region and care of the group was readily apparent.  Once she realized I was an avid cyclist, she suggested some bicycle worthy sites to visit on my free time.  My bike ride up to the Chiesa Madonna dell Ghisallo outside Belaggio, and an iconic climb of the Giro d’ Italia, was a personal highlight.  I enjoyed making Tiziana laugh as her good nature permeated the trip. Fran and I hold her in high regard, both as a guide, and as a person. That’s ufficiale!

We continue to recommend Amber Road to family and friends and wish you continued success with your small group tours.

This was our 4th trip with Amber Road Tours…obviously we love them! Federica was our amazing guide through this beautiful area of Italy. She was so astute as to the needs of each of her travelers. She was knowledgeable about every sight, and could answer any question easily. She made it a point to get to know each traveler and see to their comforts. The tour included some beautiful sights…this is one of the only trips that actually take you to The Last Supper in Milan. Loved seeing the gardens and palazzos, and the countryside that is so different from other parts of Italy. The food was excellent and the hotels were wonderful…most with lake views. We would highly recommend Amber Road Tours to see this part of Italy.

Exceeded my expectations – especially as a single traveller on my first small group tour. The tour was well organized, informative, full of delights and fun, with the right balance (for me) of “tour” and “on your own” time. The tour manager, Federica, was exceptional, with outstanding interpersonal skills, knowledge, passion for travel and client care.

The Italian Lakes Tour was our 4th Amber Road Tour.  As my husband and I reminisce about the highlights of the tour we think of (to name just a very few) the hotel in Bellagio, the violin maker’s shop, the violin recital, and, of course, The Last Supper. Federica, the tour guide, was a delightful professional. I never hesitate to refer others to Amber Road. The tours have always been a first class experience. The problem is deciding which tour should be next.

Wonderful trip under the capable guidance of Federica. She was just terrific as our tour guru. Accommodations and itinerary were excellent. Will join another tour soon!!!!

This was our 2nd trip with Amber Road (first was to Tuscany/Umbria) and we loved it! We chose the lakes region tour because we were hoping to experience much natural beauty… and it certainly did not let us down. We really liked the combination of city activities (art, history, culture) in Milan and Mantova, and the natural beauty and interesting history on Lakes Como and Maggiore. The 2 hotels on Lakes Como and Maggiore had incredible views of the lakes. Our tour leader, Federica, was terrific and the local guides were so passionate about their localities. A few highlights included… a viewing of DaVinci’s Last Supper in Milan (awe-inspiring), being part of the Alpini’s 100th anniversary celebration in Milan (with 600,000 Alpini!), visiting the opera house in Milan, the incredible gardens and villas of the lakes region, wonderful food, a violin making demonstration and short concert in the Cathedral Baptistry in Cremona, and so much more!

This was my first Amber Road tour and I enjoyed it immensely. I arrived in Italy three days before the tour began, and Amber Road hired a car to pick me up from the airport and drive me over an hour away to a small village called Crema, where I was staying on my own at an Airbnb. The car service also picked me up from Crema three days later to bring me to Milan. It was very nice to be able to purchase this extra service before the actual tour began, and it was seamless. As a first-timer in Italy, I was nervous. But Amber Road made me feel like they were watching out for me even before the actual tour began. Then I finally arrived in Milan for the beginning of my tour. Our tour guide, Federica, was wonderful. She was attentive to all of our needs, was always there to answer any questions we had, made it easy for us to go from one location to another, and was extremely knowledgeable on history of every site we attended. She made our tour fun, interesting, and stress-free. The coach that brought us around the villages was comfortable, clean, and punctual. I also loved the people who were on the tour. They were lots of fun and it was nice that they were all from different U.S. states and even Australia, South Africa, and Canada. The four hotels that we stayed in were beautiful and centrally located. The boat rides were amazing and the included meals were well-thought out and delicious. It was so nice that Federica and Amber Road made sure that we sampled foods and wine that were local to each of our locations. I especially loved our hotels in Lake Como and Stresa, and particularly enjoyed our visit to a violinmaker’s workshop, a fisherman’s island, the wine and food tasting at a vineyard, and the farewell dinner. I will never forget this wonderful tour and I am looking to book another Amber Road tour in the very near future.

This was our third tour with Amber Roads and it was great fun. We love the small group, minimal time travelling, lots of walking, and “off the beaten path” approach taken by Amber Roads. One of the highlights was the trip to the violin maker’s workshop in Cremona…….something so different and not an experience one would have with a large tour. The concert after was wonderful. Our local guides were very informative and Rita in Bellagio had lots of interesting personal stories about the inhabitants that made the history come to life. Federica was amazing and so accommodating. John has several food sensitivities and couldn’t eat much of the local food but Federica was very helpful making sure that he was well fed. In addition, our local boat trips were well organized. Bellagio on Lake Como and Stresa on Lake Maggiore were so beautiful. I would suggest, if one is taking this trip, to read Beneath a Scarlet Sky. It is the story of Pino Lela, a spy during the war, and, again, brings the history of the area to life.

Congratulations, Amber Road Tours, for a delightfully organised Tour to this magic area of Italy, and many warm thanks to Federica. You are a gem with your caring, happy and intelligent leading.

Outstanding trip, itinerary and accommodations, along with an outstanding Tour Director and local guides. We never would have independently found the violin recital or violin maker’s workshop – those were highlights for us. Thank you again for another fun adventure!

Another great tour! This tour provided us a wealth of experiences in a part of Italy we had yet to visit. Touring the various lakes areas was beautiful. The many “on water” excursions always provided a memorable perspective of the surrounding islands and villages. And the villas we visited on our island adventures were real highlights. Beyond the traditional lake areas was our time in Mantova. What a fascinating place to visit. The Palazzo Ducale and Palazzo Te were very impressive as was our local guide. Actually, all the local guides made for a much richer experience. Federica, our tour manager, was a pleasure. She is professional, well organized and very easy to get to know. Spending time with her was always a bonus. As with our previous tours, the hotel selections were very good. The Bellagio and Stresa lake view locations were quite dramatic. The hotel staff at Hotel Milano Scala was exceptional. What would a tour be without a winery experience and ours was a very pleasant afternoon. We have always appreciated how Amber Road puts together great itineraries and handles the details . . . Milan & Lombardia was no exception. Also, thanks for arranging our pre and post tour lodging.

I enjoyed this tour very much from start to finish. Lombardia and the bits of Piedmont we traveled are beautiful. The itinerary was a great mix of scheduled touring and free time to explore on your own, or rest. Also, the mix of city crowds (and chaos) and rural peace was appreciated. The hotels on this tour were wonderful, especially those in Bellagio on Lake Como and in Stresa on Lake Maggiore. The views from the rooms of the lakes and surrounding mountains were spectacular. Our tour leader, Federica, was great. She was very helpful and obviously knows and loves Italy. This was a fairly large tour group for Amber Road Tours, 18 people (from the U.S., England, Ireland, South Africa and Australia). Great tour!

The tour was excellent. Federica was a great leader, always ready to help. Places to visit were really special and the local guides were very knowledgeable .

Wonderful Tour. My first with Amber Road and hopefully not my last. Our Tour Guide Federica was excellent, very well prepared for each city we visited, and also a fund of knowledge about Italy in general. There was enough time for relaxation and recuperation after long days on our feet.

An excellent tour. Our guide, Frederica was great. Very Well organised & very helpful. Specifically she helped suggest & book restaurants everywhere. Lake Como was the highlight with the Belvedere hotel really excellent. We found the tour well paced and showed us all the things that we should see. All in all a great tour

Our second tour with Amber Road was as interesting and stimulating as our first. Thanks especially to our Tour Director, Frederica who was very knowledgeable, efficient and very kind. She loves her job and it shows in her warmth and willingness to share stories of her experiences. We love the fact that Amber Road takes us to cities and towns we would never have seen – Cremona and the visit to a violin workshop and the Violin Museum was a highlight as was the visit to the da Vinci painting of the Last Supper. Of course, the Lakes – Como and Maggiore were beautiful and Bellagio and Stresa were perfect for walking, exploring and eating. The hotels were all first class – good locations and very comfortable rooms – great views, too, of the Lakes.

Our first Amber Road Tour to Milan and the Lake area…..we had a fabulous time and we loved our tour director Federica….her knowledge and enthusiasm for the area were contagious and she always had our back. We were lucky with great weather, wine and food. I was amazed how many little towns were toured on this trip with lots of surprises.

The Milan and Lombardia tour was a great compliment to the 4 other tours of Italy we have taken with Amber Road and we will remember this area of our favourite country for its incredibly scenic beauty. We were very impressed by all of  the hotels on this tour and the experience of eating breakfast while listening to a live harp performance in Milan was over the top. Our tour manager Federica was a wonderful host: warm and attentive, funny, and generous in sharing her vast knowledge of the area.

The Milan and Lombardia Tour was excellent! The hotels and their locations met our expectations; the range and pace of activities were excellent and included meals were very good — consistent with other Amber Road Tours we have taken. Federica was an excellent trip leader-very knowledgeable, helpful, cheerful, and ‘watchful over our group’. The combination of interesting venue and excellent tour director made this tour an extremely pleasant holiday.

Another great tour with Amber Road! This was an area we’d visited before but once again they showed us new and exciting things. The big party got on very well together and some interesting conversations took place. It was good to meet some previous Amber Road friends and our tour guide Frederica was a gem. Highlights, there were many – Bellagio, a jewel on a silver lake but it’s often the unexpected that makes a trip. The start of the Mille Miglia in Brescia and a chance to get last minute tickets for an opera at La Scala, a lifetimes’ dream come true!  How to top that? Well, do another Amber Road tour, use the trips as a template for your return visits to Italy.

This is the first tour for us with Amber Road. It exceeded our expectations! Almost everything was perfect – the hotels were comfortable, centrally located, and even luxurious. The tour was paced just right between sightseeing and free time to pursue our own interests or relax. In the two lake locations we had rooms with balconies where we could sit and take in the beautiful lake scenery. Our tour director, Federica, was excellent. She was both relaxed and vigilant, making sure that we all were taken care of in whatever we needed. Mostly, the included meals were very enjoyable. Only two dinners had an entre not universally appealing and Jonathan is not letting that happen again. Even though we have traveled to almost every region that Amber Road Tours provides tours, we have not seen any of these regions in depth. One of the best strengths of the tours is that they do cover places and sights not available on many other tours. In fact, that is the main reason, we decided to try Amber Roads. We were not disappointed. We will travel again with Amber Road.
